Vida Health Increases New Feature Rollouts by 30 Percent With Split

REDWOOD CITY, CA – Split, the leading platform for feature experimentation, today announced that Vida Health, has selected Split to leverage feature flagging and experimentation capabilities to build and deliver innovation faster with less risk in their mobile application. Vida is a digital health company offering a full suite of personalized health programs and one-on-one coaching and therapy.

The Vida mobile application and service combines evidence-based clinical programs, behavioral science, data science, and the human touch. After Vida product engineers created an in-house feature flag solution that leveraged a database for turning features on or off, the process quickly became time-consuming and burdensome. As Vida grew in its user base and scope, Vida engineers knew they needed a more scalable solution that could support a more rapid release cadence for their mobile application.

“Split has enabled Vida to test our mobile application in a way we wouldn’t be able to otherwise,” said Russell Melick, Vida Engineering Manager. “As we integrated Split into our workflow, engineering teams were able to catch and fix issues as they appeared, thanks to the consistency and standardization Split offers. This increased our confidence significantly and now every feature and code change we make is wrapped in a Split feature flag.”

Split equips Vida with a full-stack solution that helps engineering and product management experiment with both the mobile application and back end-system to deliver a seamless customer experience. After using Split for testing back-end systems and front-end UI enhancements, Vida was eager to apply Split to major application features where they quickly benefited from the reliability and predictability that Split offers. Because of the flexibility provided by feature flagging, all tests for Vida’s mobile application are now run in the production environment. Looking forward, Vida is planning to use Split impression data to conduct broader analysis for building new customer features and engineers train machine learning models.

Vida has achieved the following benefits from using Split:

  • Increased mobile application release velocity from once per month to once per week with the implementation of controlled rollouts and testing in production
  • A 30 percent increase in the number of features that make it into each release train
  • Product experiments that used to take days now run instantaneously, giving time back for data scientists to focus on building machine learning models to help power new features

“The pace of software development is only getting faster, but when given the proper tools, companies like Vida can truly experience the benefits of full-stack experimentation and testing,” said Adil Aijaz, CEO and co-founder at Split. “It’s exciting to see the results of Vida’s integration of our platform in the healthcare environment, adding a whole new dimension to the work we’re doing in the software development space.”
