REDWOOD CITY, CA – December 11, 2019 – Split Software, the leading feature delivery platform, announced today that Brian Bell has been named its new chief executive officer (CEO) and appointed to the company’s board of directors. This appointment comes as Split marks a record year of growth which saw a 100 percent increase in revenue and customers. In addition, Split’s feature delivery platform saw a 600 percent increase in the number of feature flags served.
Bell joins Split from Ping Identity where he served as chief marketing officer for 4 years. Bell’s background in operations and go-to-market strategy complements Split’s previous CEO and co-founder Adil Aijaz. Aijaz will continue to guide the company vision and product strategy in his new role as chief strategy officer.
Split was founded in 2015 by Aijaz; Split’s President, Trevor Stuart; and Chief Technology Officer, Patricio “Pato” Echagüe with the mission to empower engineering teams to build more impactful products. Software is behind every modern customer interaction, yet companies can neither deliver software fast enough nor adequately measure the impact of these new features on users. Split changes that.
“I am excited to welcome Brian to Split,” said Adil Aijaz, Split’s co-founder and new chief of strategy. “During the past year, Split has scaled rapidly and we have more than doubled the business. We recognized a unique opportunity to benefit from Brian’s experience and great success scaling startups, so the decision to bring him on as our CEO was an easy one. His depth in scaling go-to-market organizations, driving operational excellence and leading high-performing teams will help us achieve our next milestones.”
Bell brings more than 20 years of experience in high-growth businesses to the role at Split. Before his role at Ping, he was CMO of Zuora, a category-leading company where he created iconic messaging and positioning that propelled the business. Prior to Zuora, Brian was general manager at CA Technologies, responsible for the growth and profitability of a $450m business unit in IT Service Management & Project Management.
“Split is well-positioned in the fast-growth market for developer tools, which is exciting, and energizes me to lead this team,” notes Brian Bell. “As major enterprises in all industries digitize their businesses, the speed and impact of software development will define success. Split improves the pace and quality of software innovation better than competing solutions, and we’re just getting started.”
Highlighting Split’s record year of growth are customer wins like Qantas, LexisNexis, Sonder, Vistaprint, and Hims & Hers. These customers join leading enterprise and high-growth customers such as Salesforce, Swedbank, Twilio, GoDaddy, and Schlumberger.
Split began 2019 by introducing the first free feature flagging product to the market, which drove broad market adoption. Additionally, the company recently unveiled product innovations for Feature Monitoring, an automated detection capability for its leading feature delivery platform that reduces detection times of errors in a code release. This allows teams to react to issues much faster and use an “instant off” option within five minutes, to preserve user experience without the need for rollbacks or hot fixes. The company also added integrations with Segment, to tap into existing data for use in A/B tests, and Sentry, to trigger alerts when a new feature experiences an error.
Recently named one of CNBC’s Upstart 100 Most Promising Startups, Split is backed by Accel and Lightspeed Venture Partners, with members of each firm seated on its board.
“We believe the market for software development solutions is in the midst of huge growth,” remarked Ping Li, partner at venture capital firm, Accel. “Split is on track to become a leading player in this new development stack, and we’re excited to have Brian join Split and build toward this promise.”
